2014 Beijing Workshop on Rehabilitation Following Electrical Injury

Synopsis

Today there is much greater recognition of the complex nature of the neurological and neuromuscular consequences of electrical shock. Even small electrical shocks that have no burn component may result in altered functioning of the nervous system resulting in long-term functional abnormalities or persistent pain. These problems are commonplace regardless of whether there is direct brain exposure to the electrical shock current.  While considerable progress has been made in our understanding, much less progress has been made in advancing the treatment approach.  The purpose of this Workshop is to expand the international collaboration between electrical injury experts so that clinical treatment protocols can be developed, evaluated and advanced.
