From June 6 to 8, over 70 healthcare professionals and researchers gathered at UChicago Center in Beijing for the Home Medicine and Palliative Care Symposium. Co-hosted by the China Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Beijing Hospital’s National Center of Gerontology, Beijing Medical Ethics Association and HOMECARE, the event featured workshops, lectures, and discussions on cutting-edge topics such as AI-driven patient management, home rehabilitation techniques, and legal safeguards in caregiving.
The first day of the symposium centered on the digital innovation in home and community healthcare, featuring speeches on the recent breakthroughs of AI-driven home care and robotic dementia care. There were interactive discussions following each session and a Q&A session at the end of the presentations. After the Q&A session, a workshop allowed the participants to witness the real-world application of the frequently used home care techniques.
The following day focused on palliative home caregiving, with prominent experts addressing the topics including the legal protection in home care, the impact of caregiving experiences on health and end-of-life-care. The morning culminated in a thought-provoking discussion and Q&A session, where experts and the audience collaboratively explored critical issues in the field, sparking interdisciplinary dialogue. The afternoon symposium switched its topic to specialized care models, with in-depth discussions on palliative care development using Shenzhen’s integrated service system as a case study.
On the last day, a dedicated research and publication section was included in the symposium, which afforded the participants a chance to engage with cutting-edge studies on home healthcare from the U.S. and explore quality control frameworks for palliative care services.
As aging populations and digital transformation reshape medical landscapes, this event offered a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration, reinforcing the shift toward patient-centered, accessible care. Throughout the event, carefully planned tea breaks facilitated networking opportunities, and as always, the support and coordination of the center was vital to the event’s success.
