Dream Corps held its 2016 Summer Volunteer Program at the University of Chicago Center in Beijing from May 19 to May 21, 2016.
Dream Corps for Harmonious Development International is a nonprofit organization founded in the state of North Carolina in 2004. Dedicated to building libraries in underprivileged areas in rural China, Dream Corps aims to foster interest in reading for rural children through reading classes and activities, and ignite their internal drive for learning. The Summer Volunteer Program is Dream Corps' key program and joins together volunteers from all over the world to participate in library building in rural China. To ensure program quality, Dream Corps invites developmental psychology, education, library establishment and design, and other related professionals to provide comprehensive training to the volunteers. For the 2016 Beijing training program, there were 39 volunteers from the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong SAR and mainland China, as well as 19 teachers from 10 rural sites in Henan, Gansu, Sichuan, Guizhou, Fujian provinces. After the volunteers returned from their service sites in rural China, Dream Corps again held a concluding forum at the University of Chicago Center.
The University of Chicago Center was very supportive of this year's program; many employees have worked over time to provide service to the teachers and volunteers. Their sincerity and warmth have definitely contributed greatly to this year's program success and helped to make a difference in Dream Corps' education improvement efforts.
