William Schweiker, Edward L. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor at the Divinity School and Director of the Martin Marty Center for the Advanced Study of Religion, the research arm of the Divinity School, visited Shanghai and Beijing to give lectures at four important Chinese universities.

On March 21st, Schweiker appeared in Shanghai at Fudan University’s Philosophy Department and spoke on the topic of “Ethics and Types of Justice”.  The respondent for this lecture was Zhang Shuangli and Wang Xinsheng moderated.

William Schweiker’s talk at Tongji University was moderated by Xie Zhibin, author of “Religious Diversity and Public Religion in China”.
The following day, also in Shanghai, Schweiker spoke at Tongji University with Liang Jia Rong acting as respondent and Xie Zhibin moderating.  This lecture was entitled, “Is the ‘Will to Power’ the Will to Life?”.

During the weekend, Schweiker flew to Beijing, giving a talk on March 25th at Peking University entitled, “Globalization and Integrity of Life”, with Sun Shangyang moderating.

On March 27th, Renmin University’s He Guanghu hosted Schweiker’s lecture on “Ethics and Forms of Poverty”.
