The Beijing: East Asia, Then and Now Program officially launched on September 24, welcoming 23 University of Chicago undergraduates to the UChicago Center in Beijing. Over the fall quarter, students will immerse themselves in East Asia’s history, politics, and culture, guided by faculty from Political Science, East Asian Languages, and Cinema and Media Studies.
The program continues its collaboration with Renmin University of China (RUC), which provides student accommodation and Chinese language courses. During the orientation, Prof. Dali Yang gave an opening remark to the program. Attendees included the Dean of RUC’s International Cultural Exchange Institute, as well as course instructors and teaching assistants. The event concluded with a reception, marking the beginning of what promises to be a transformative academic experience.
