To underscore the University of Chicago’s long-standing tradition of building international community, the Harris School of Public Policy recently organized two coffee chats events at the University of Chicago Center in Beijing and The Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen.
The primary goal of the two gatherings was to forge a deeper connection with newly admitted students from the region and offer them a warm welcome to the UChicago community. The two sessions served as an ideal platform not only for the Harris School of Public Policy to show support to incoming students from China, but also for the students to network and exchange ideas. The events provided a valuable opportunity for admitted students to ask questions, familiarize themselves with each other, and start building a network of peers prior to matriculation.
The coffee chat event in Shenzhen also coincided with an open day at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, allowing the Harris community to extend its outreach and deeply engage with the students to better facilitate those with an interest in the field of public policy.
The two occasions highlighted UChicago’s dedication to fostering a close-knit community. Meanwhile, they offered an opportunity for the newly admitted students to have a glimpse of life at UChicago. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment from the start, the events highlighted Harris’s dedication to cultivating future leaders and policymakers as well as its determination to nurture a global community of scholars determined to bring the world a better future.
