On May 8, 2026, Professor Michael Millis, Vice Chair for Global Surgery at the University of Chicago, visited the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Peking Union Medical College (CAMS PUMC), accompanied by Zening Ge and Xia Li, Executive and Associate Directors of the University of Chicago Center in Beijing. The delegation was received by CAMS PUMC Vice President Hui Pan and senior administrators from the university’s academic affairs and faculty development offices. Following formal welcoming remarks, the participants engaged in a high-level dialogue centered on deepening the strategic alignment between the two institutions in both educational and clinical spheres.
The discussions focused on institutionalizing student and faculty mobility through structured exchange programs and educator development initiatives, with a particular emphasis on a proposed six-month training curriculum. This specialized program, which builds upon preliminary consultations held in March, is designed to provide participants with comprehensive exposure to advanced medical education, scientific research, and clinical observation. By formalizing these frameworks, both parties seek to transform individual academic interests into a concrete and integrated institutional partnership.
Concluding the visit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to long-term talent cultivation and agreed to refine the operational frameworks for future training cycles. This initiative aims to bolster the clinical and research capacities of both organizations by providing physicians and residents with direct exposure to international best practices. The exchange ended with a commemorative group photograph, symbolizing a shared dedication to advancing the enduring partnership between PUMC and the University of Chicago.
