The Third China-U.S. Medical Education Summit 2026 with a focus on AI integration in medical education was convened on Wuhan University School of Medicine Campus and streamed online on April 24–25, 2026. A UChicago faculty delegation consisting of Drs. Renslow Sherer, Jonathan Lio, David Beiser, Nicholas Ludmer, Daniel Friedman and Sean Conley presented at the Summit. Chinese speakers represented Wuhan University, alongside invited faculty from Sun Yat-sen University, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Xiangya Hospital, and Tongji Hospital (Wuhan).
Jointly hosted by the University of Chicago and Wuhan University, the Summit featured a dynamic mix of keynote lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and an applied AI case demonstration. Participants examined practical approaches to integrating AI into curricula and assessment systems, supporting faculty capability, and establishing program-level oversight.
The Summit provided a timely platform to share best practices, address challenges, and chart future directions. It also advanced dialogues to update institutional AI use policies, reduce fragmentation in AI adoption, and support leaders in education in developing sustainable, high-quality AI-enabled medical education programs.
The Summit made national impact by bringing together faculty, researchers and trainees from eight major institutions across China and the U.S., attracting over 3,000 online viewers and over 100 local participants. (Reported by Ivy Jiang)
