Dialogues in Architecture: Tsinghua and Peking University Students Visit the UChicago Center in Beijing

On two consecutive days, the University of Chicago Center in Beijing had the pleasure of hosting Professor Tang Keyang, Chief Researcher at Tsinghua University’s Future Laboratory and a leading figure in contemporary architectural and cultural studies. Professor Tang led two groups of undergraduate students in visiting the Center’s latest exhibition and participating in a series of lectures and discussions.

On the first day, 15 students from Xinya College, Tsinghua University, joined Professor Tang for an immersive program that combined a guided exhibition tour with a thought-provoking lecture. The following day, 7 students from Yuanpei College, Peking University, took part in a similar session, engaging enthusiastically with both the exhibition and the academic dialogue that followed.

During the visit, Professor Tang offered a brief introduction to his recent reflections on architecture and culture, encouraging students to explore the exhibition through their own perspectives. The exhibition became a lively platform for dialogue, where students from both universities shared their interpretations and creative responses. Each presentation reflected personal insight and imagination, revealing a thoughtful engagement with the ideas and emotions expressed through architectural form.

The visits concluded with open discussions and group exchanges, fostering a spirit of collaboration and intellectual curiosity. Many students noted that the experience broadened their understanding of how exhibitions can serve as spaces for critical thinking, artistic exploration, and interdisciplinary learning.

These two inspiring programs exemplify the University of Chicago Center in Beijing’s commitment to fostering academic exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue among leading scholars and students. Through initiatives such as this, the Center continues to strengthen its role as a vibrant hub connecting global perspectives in education, art, and research.
