On May 31st, the University of Chicago Center in Beijing hosted a colorful “Parent-Child Carnival”, co-organized by the UChicago Beijing Alumni Association and alumni groups from multiple prestigious universities. The event attracted over sixty participants, creating a lively atmosphere of learning and connection.
The first half of the event featured a series of expert-led discussions for parents on cutting-edge educational concepts. Experts including Professor Zhu Wei, the director of the Tsung-Dao Lee Center of Sciences and Arts at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Yu Hong, founder of Zhuxiaoge, an AI-driven children’s education startup; Qiao Lu, an advocate of mindful parenting; and Zhang Juan, an early education specialist. The experts shared their insights in their respective field of expertise, offering the parents new perspective on holistic child rearing. While the parents attended the academic seminars, their children participated in hands-on science experiments and geography activities, observing multiple scientific phenomena firsthand and exploring Beijing on an interactive 3D map.
The second half brought families together for group activities led by the AMI Beijing Center and Kidtopia Education’s teaching team. Through immersive storytelling and miniature treasure ships building, the parents and their children travelled through time to explore Zheng He’s maritime voyages. The families also observed captivating demonstrations of scientific phenomena including air occupies space, hot air rises and air moves into vacuum spaces.
The event concluded with a networking dinner for the parents to have free discussion and share their ideas and thoughts on child-rearing, while their children enjoyed pizza and made new friends. Brimming with laughter and joy, the carnival brought the alumni closer together while creating precious family bonding time.
