As the Lunar New Year approached, the University of Chicago Center in Beijing welcomed 130 alumni, current students, and professionals to a festive gathering on January 18. Organized by the UChicago Alumni Club of Beijing and the UChicago Booth School of Business, the event provided its guests with a vibrant platform for discussions, networking, and celebration.
The afternoon began with a welcoming remark, reflecting on UChicago’s development in the past year, followed by numerous activities including keynote speeches, an innovation and entrepreneurship panel, as well as a panel on economic development. Distinguished guests shared their insights and expertise in their respective fields, among them were Liguang Chen, a Booth alumnus and a leading investment figure in China; Zhong Lin Wang, a world-renowned nanoscientist, materials scientist, energy technology expert and fellow of the National Academy of Inventors; Yuqing Lou, professor in the Department of Physics at Tsinghua University; as well as many other leading academics, entrepreneurs, and business leaders. Susan Miller, the famous astrologer, also made an appearance as a special guest, adding a unique feature to this event.
After the panel discussions, the attendees gathered for a group photo to capture this memorable moment. The evening concluded with dinner featuring traditional Chinese cuisine. The guests helped themselves to the delectable dishes while connecting and engaging in conversations in a relaxed environment. The organizers also arranged performances during dinner to enrich the festive ambiance and entertain guests as they enjoyed their meal. The gathering not only marked the start of another fruitful year but also strengthened UChicago’s strong alumni network. As usual, the support and coordination of the Center is vital to the event’s success.
