Unexpected Histories: A New Exhibition of Works by Guan Wei

"Unexpected Histories," a new art exhibit of works by Guan Wei, has opened in the Steve Sun Gallery of the University of Chicago Beijing Center.  Guan Wei is an internationally renowned painter, printmaker, sculptor, and installation artist with studios in Beijing and Sydney Australia. Working with curator Judith Farquhar, he chose a set of old and new works representative of his career projects to install in the Center's Gallery. These included a series of witty paintings in file folders called "Mapocalypse," a sample of Guan's history painting("Reflection"), an over-painted landscape scroll called "Paper War" with accompanying animated video, and six new bronze sculptures ("Salvation").

"Unexpected Histories" will be in the Center's gallery for about six months.
