On the evening of October 25, from 8:00 to 9:30 pm, the University of Chicago Center in Beijing welcomed attendees to an insightful information session for the Master in Finance (MiF) program at UChicago Booth School of Business. As the main speaker of the information session, Dacheng Xiu, Professor of Economic and Statistics at UChicago Booth, provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of the Asness and Liew Master in Finance Program, elaborating its strengths, benefits and the application process.
Professor Xiu began with an introduction to the program’s overview, introducing its rigorous 15-month curriculum designed not only to equip students with essential finance fundamentals and industry-specific knowledge but also to grant them the opportunity to choose the courses that align with their interest and aspirations. In addition to the classes Booth provides, Professor Xiu highlighted the Boothcamp in August, which allows students to build quantitative skills and reflect on their career paths, as well as the Co-Curricular career prep aimed at equipping them with essential job search skills, networking strategies, and practical workplace competencies.
Another key aspect Professor Xiu outlined is the program’s robust career support system, with two rounds of career support designed to assist students in both internship placements and full-time employment after graduation. Booth’s MiF students benefit from a global network of alumni, career consultants, and access to the UChicago’s extensive resources. Throughout the program, students engage in career preparation activities, leveraging both pipeline-based and network-based job search strategies to maximize their success in securing their desired roles. Professor Xiu concluded the session by discussing the application requirements and timeline. He emphasized the qualifications of the most successful candidates and provided application tips for the attendees.
This information session offered attendees a precious opportunity to engage face-to-face with UChicago Booth faculty and a deeper understanding of the school’s commitment to developing skilled future leaders in finance and the vibrant community of UChicago.
