On March 12, 2024, the UChicago Center in Beijing hosted the UChicago Medicine China Forum 2024 to discuss the latest advancements in cancer treatment and the future of cancer care. The forum featured Dr. Mitchell Posner, Physician-in-Chief of the UChicago Comprehensive Cancer Center as the keynote speaker to demonstrate UChicago Medicine’s state-of-the-art cancer treatment to the medical community in China.
The center’s executive director, Dr. Zening Ge offered an opening remark to welcome Dr. Posner coming to China and our partners and friends to participate the event. Then, Mr. James Bae, Director of Business Development for Programs & Emerging Markets International Programs at UChicago Medicine shared recent updates from UChicago Medicine, underpinning its recent achievements and innovative approach in areas such as oligometastasis, cell therapy, and the integration of advanced imaging/artificial intelligence, etc. There were also updates on the construction progress of Illinois’s first free-standing cancer pavilion to showcase UChicago Medicine’s determination to merge scientific research with clinical patient care. Dr. Posner delivered the keynote speech centered around the current advances in cancer treatment and reimagining future cancer care, followed by a 20-minute Q&A session that allowed the audience to share their insights and seek for clarifications. The forum concluded with a networking reception, providing a casual yet precious environment for the Chinese cohorts to freely exchange knowledge and discuss potential collaborations with the UChicago Medicine community.
A preliminary discussion was held in advance of the forum among Dr. Posner, James Bae, and Dr. Zhao Haiping, President of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University, laying the groundwork and exchanging information between the two medical communities in UChicago and China. Further showcasing the impact of this forum and broadening the outreach of his expertise and research to the public, Dr. Posner participated in an interview session with People’s Daily Health and 21st Century Business Herald.
The forum attracted the attention of around 60 participants, including doctors, healthcare industry stakeholders as well as enthusiasts, enabling the fruitful exchange of innovative ideas and thoughts. An insightful question from a high school student captured Dr. Posner’s interest particularly, showcasing the breadth of interest in cancer research among attendees of all ages.
