2016 Chicago in Beijing Chinese Language Students Arrive in Beijing

On June 12th, 30 students arrived for this year’s Chicago in Beijing Summer Chinese Language Program, held at the UChicago Center in Beijing. UChicago faculty member Youqin WANG, Director of the Chinese Language Program, as well as UChicago faculty member Fangpei CAI, returned to lead the program for its ninth year in Beijing and sixth year at the Center in Beijing. This highly intensive program allows students to complete an entire year’s worth of Chinese in one summer while earning UChicago credits.

On June 12th, 30 students arrived for the 2016 Chicago in Beijing Summer Chinese Language Program, held at the UChicago Center in Beijing. UChicago faculty member Youqin WANG, Director of the Chinese Language Program, as well as UChicago faculty member Fangpei CAI, returned to lead the program for its ninth year in Beijing and sixth year at the Center in Beijing. This highly intensive program allows students to complete an entire year’s worth of Chinese in one summer while earning UChicago credits.

Orientation was held on June 13th. During orientation, students learned about their summer class schedules, after which Beijing Center staff members presented essential information about the Renmin campus and the city of Beijing.

During the program, students take intensive morning language classes lead by UChicago faculty. In addition, students attend small-group and one-on-on sessions with local instructors that focus on conversation skills. The program also includes weekly tours of some of the many historical sites that Beijing has to offer. This year’s group have already visited the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall.
