2023 China Harris Alumni and Student Summer Send-Off

The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy collaborates closely with many Chinese universities and institutes, and many Chinese students come to Harris to pursue their passion for social impact through policymaking.

On July 22  at The University of Chicago Center in Beijing, alumni, staff, and incoming students gathered to toast to the end of summer and celebrate incoming students’ new journey at Harris.

Hosted by Rebecca Hou, Associate Director of Student Recruitment, the event started with an ice breaker activity, in which students had the opportunity to introduce themselves. Christina Xu, Associate Director of Employer Partnerships, then discussed the Harris Career Development Office and shared tips for students to make the most of career services at Harris. Simiao Wang, Assistant Director of Global Outreach, and several Harris alumni joined the conversation and shared their Harris pride and advice to future graduates. After the panel, participants stayed for a late afternoon of food, drinks, and networking.

Thomas Coleman, Senior Lecturer at Harris and Executive Director at the Center for Economic Policy, shared his remarks to close out this unforgettable event. In the keynote, Professor Coleman shared, “I know the work for you will be challenging. I hope the central thing you learn at Harris is to think critically and always be curious. Please do not think that your education will be complete when you graduate. You have so much to learn as you pursue your life and your career. Please hold onto and build on the curiosity and critical thinking that are a central part of the University of Chicago culture.”

With this insight in mind, Harris 2023 incoming students will soon start the next chapter of their lives and look forward to connecting again on campus in September!
