The University of Chicago Center in Beijing is pleased to announce the resumption of summer residency award for UChicago graduate students. University of Chicago graduate students planning field or archival research in China in 2023/2024 academic year are invited to apply for short-term research residencies at the University of Chicago Beijing Center. The appointment entitles students to office space and support services, including reliable internet access. Periods of residence may vary from a few weeks to several months. Every graduate student awarded a residency will be issued a $3000 stipend to assist with travel, expenses and hiring of research assistants in mainland China.
Applicants must currently be in the dissertation stage or expected to enter this stage no later than the end of Spring Quarter, 2023. Interested students should write to Xia Li, manager of events and programs at the Center: xial@uchicago.edu, with a summary of your dissertation topic and research needs, the name of your principal faculty advisor, and an estimate of the period of time you expect to be working in Beijing and/or elsewhere in China. You can be most confident about receiving an appointment and stipend if you apply before May 1st, 2023. The decision will be made by the Faculty Director of the Center and UChicago Global jointly. We expect to award the residencies up to four for 2023/2024 academic year.
