UChicago Harris School of Public Policy Hosts 2025 Incoming Students Summer Send-Off

In the height of summer 2025, the series of in-person send-off events for new students hosted by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy (UChicago Harris) concluded successfully once again. During the events, the Harris admissions team traveled to Beijing and Shanghai to extend their heartfelt blessings and encouragement to the incoming students who are about to embark on a new journey. For these students preparing to step into the University of Chicago campus, these gatherings were more than just an exchange of information—it marked the beginning of connection and a sense of belonging.

Each student in attendance received a thoughtfully prepared, exclusive UChicago Harris welcome gift, which carried the warmest wishes from the Harris family. It is our hope that in this welcoming atmosphere, every student could find connection, begin building friendships, and lay the foundation for a strong support network as they prepare for their upcoming journey of studying in the U.S.

At the beginning of the event, Associate Director of Employer Partnerships from the UChicago Harris Career Development Office provided incoming students with a comprehensive overview of the career resources and support systems offered by the school. From career planning to job matching, from mentor program to one-on-one coaching services, each initiative reflects the school’s strong commitment to students’ professional growth. The goal is to help every student discover their own path and find direction in their career journey.

Following the career development session, the event moved into the alumni sharing segment. Several Harris alumni joined the incoming students to share their academic journeys at UChicago Harris, their career paths after graduation, and firsthand advice as mentors who have walked the same road. Their stories not only highlighted the diverse opportunities offered by a Harris education but also allowed the new students to feel the strength and responsibility that come with being part of the Harris community. It was a powerful display of the unity and support within the alumni network.

In addition, two popular UChicago Harris professors—Mr. Thomas Coleman and Ms. Rebecca Wolfe—were also present at the event. Through a relaxed and engaging dialogue, they shared how they encourage students in the classroom to think critically and apply data-driven analysis to identify effective policy solutions in the face of complex challenges. This “preview of the classroom” conversation sparked excitement among the incoming students and deepened their anticipation for the academic journey ahead.

Finally, the event concluded with a delightful tea break and lively conversations. During this warm and welcoming send-off, students not only met peers who will be joining them on their study abroad journey but also gained valuable insights into academic life and career development through face-to-face interactions with alumni and professors.

The University of Chicago is not only a hub of academic excellence, but also a warm and empowering community. Within this platform, every new student will have the chance to meet peers from around the world and become part of an alumni network that built on mutual support and shared success. Whether during their time on campus or along their future career paths, this sense of belonging and connection will always be by their side. We wish everyone a fulfilling, smooth, and exciting journey as they begin this new chapter in Chicago!
