Twenty University of Chicago Laboratory Schools students embarked on a two-week exploration trip to China in March. The students spent a week visiting rural areas in Sichuan Province before continuing their journey to Beijing. On March 19, the group visited the UChicago Center in Beijing, where Executive Director Dr. Zening Ge introduced them to China’s higher education system and engaged in a Q&A session.
During their stay in Beijing, the students participated in classroom exchanges with peers from the High School Affiliated with the Renmin University of China and Beijing Dandelion School, a non-profit middle school providing equal access to quality education for children in Beijing from low-income migrant families.
This group is the first from Lab School to visit China since the Covid pandemic, and students were excited to gain firsthand experience of diverse educational methods in China. We look forward to future annual visits from the Lab School, which will deepen mutual understanding between teenagers from both the U.S. and China.
